Leading by just four points at half, the Williamson basketball team stretched that lead to 19 with just 7:49 left before Lehigh Carbon Community College was able to cut that lead to just seven with 1:43 left. Williamson then closed things out from there to gain a 78-71 win over the visiting Cougars.
Unlike their recent trend, Williamson came out strong from the start, shooting a blistering 60.8% in the first half, however, unlike their other recent trend of shutting opponents down in the first half, they allowed the Cougars to score 39 in the half.
Williamson's defense though settled things down to start the second half, as they outscored their opponent 26-11 over the first 13 minutes. The Cougars were not about to go quietly, as they closed the gap to seven twice, the last time coming with 1:43 left, before time ran out on their comeback attempt.
As has been their hallmark almost all season to date, Williamson once again had balanced scoring, as four Mechanic players hit for double-figures. Semaj Chery had 20 points and five rebounds, while Liam Rardin added 15 points, Rob Wiley 14 points and six assists and Ronald Johnson added 14 points and seven rebounds.
The Mechanics open Eastern States Athletic Conference play Saturday, as they host Central Penn College in a 1:00 P.M. tip-off.
