Mechanics Rally for First Game Win
It was a slow start for Williamson in the opening game of their doubleheader with Manor College on Thursday afternoon. The team was down 4-0 early on and still trailed 4-0 heading into the fifth inning before they rallied for four runs in the fifth and five on the sixth to take down the Blue Jays, 9-4.
The big bat that keyed the rally was shortstop Cody Grande. Trailing 4-1 with two runners on base, he took a fastball deep for a three-run game tying home run. He then had the game wining RBI in the bottom of the sixth, as he gained a bases loaded walk to put Williamson on top at 5-4, a lead they would never relinquish.
Reliever Jacob Naumann came in with the game tied at 4-4 and Manor with a runner on third and no outs. He got them out of the jam and shut things down from there to give Williamson the win.
With the win, Williamson moves to 12-5 overall and 7-3 in ESAC play.
