Baseball Sweeps Senior Day Doubleheader Against Patrick Henry
MEDIA, Pa. - The Williamson College of the Trades baseball team celebrated Senior Day on Saturday with a doubleheader sweep against the Patrick Henry Crusaders in markedly different fashion, needing extra innings to wiun the opener 10-9 before a run-ruled 14-4 victory in the second contest.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Michael Sheller went 5-for-5 in the opener and drove in three runs for the afternoon. He also stole seven bases.
- Zachary Ladislaw had four hits, including a homer, with seven RBI across the two games.
- Cole Locklear had two hits, two three RBI and three runs scored, reaching base four times in the twinbill.
- Aiden McHugh did not allow an earned run during a complete game effort in the second contest, striking out three.
HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME ONE
- PHC jumped on top wioth two runs in the first inning. The Mechanics came back with two of their own on an RBI single by Sheller and a fielder's choice from Ladislaw.
- The Crusaders continued on offense, building an 8-3 lead into the bottom of the fifth.
- Williamson pulled closer in that frame as Sheller led off with a single, moved to second on an error and then stole third. Locklear walked to put runners on the corners for Ladislaw who singled in Sheller. After Locklear and Ladislaw moved up on an error and a stolen basem, Phil Martini hit a sac fly, followed by a double from Haden Nagle, slicing the gap to 8-6.
- In the sixth, Shane McLaughlin led off with a single and moved to second on an error. Brandon Fredricksdorf walked. Sheller doubled, bringing home McLaughlin, cuttting the lead to 8-7. Jacob Naumann followed with a two-bagger, scoring both runners to give the Mechanics a 9-8 edge.
- Patrick Henry scored an unearned run in the top of the seventh to force extra innings.
- Sheller led off the bottom of the eighth with a single and stole second and third. Two batters later, Ladislaw lifted a sac fly to center to score Sheller and give WT the walkoff win.
HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME TWO
- Once again, PHC got on the board early, scoring four unearned runs, aided by three Williamson errors.
- Not wasting any time, Williamson tied it in the bottom of the frame as Fredricksdorf singled and was doubled home by Ramone Sanchez. After a single by Naumann had runners at first and third, Ladislaw homered to tie the game.
- The Mechanics pounced again in the third as Naumann singled, then stole second and third. A single by Ladislaw and back-to-back doubles from Martini and Locklear put WT up 7-4. A sac fly from Sheller, plated the final run of the inning.
- Williamson struck for five in the fourth, keyed by a two-run double from Locklear and an two-run single from Dominic DePoulter.
- WT ended the game in the bottom of the fifth as Frederickdorf was h it by a pitch and stole second. Sanchez came up and singled him in to invoke the 10-run rule.
UP NEXT
Williamson is back in action on Wednesday with a single game against Delaware Community College. First pitch from the Williamson Baseball Field is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
