Baseball Sweeps Twinbill from Patrick Henry
MEDIA, Pa. - The Williamson College of the Trades baseball team took both ends of a doubleheader against Patrick Henry College, claiming game one by a 12-2 final in five innings before ekeing out a 9-7 victory in the second contest.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Daniel Gross went 5-for-6 in the two games with three RBI and three runs scored.
- Brandon Fredericksdorf had four hits for the afternoon, including a homerun.
- James Spicer and Dominic DePoulter each had three hits in the second game.
- Shane McLaughlin tossed 2.1 innings of scoreless ball, striking out four in the opener.
- Haden Nagle delivered three shutout innings with seven punchouts for the game tow save.
- Aiden McHugh struck out 10 and allowed just two earned runs in four innings.
HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME ONE
- After a scoreless top of the first, the Mechanics got all the runs they needed for the game in the bottom of the inning. With Ramone Sanchez on third and Jacob Naumann on first, Gross singled to drive in the opening run of the contest. After Naumann scored on a balk, an error allowed Gross to score, making it 3-0.
- Five more runs came across in the second, highlighted by a Fredericksdorf triple and RBI at-bats from Naumann and Gross.
- PHC got on the board with two in the top of the third.
- In the bottom of the frame, WT scored four runs with two out. Fredericksdorf reached on an error and stole second ahead of Sanchez, who singled him home. Naumann and Gross walked to load the bases. Nagle cleared them with a double, pushing the lead to 12-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME TWO
- A rough start for Williamson saw Patrick Henry jump out to a 5-0 lead with all five runs being unearned.
- The Mechanics got right back in the game with four runs in the bottom of the second, leyed by RBI hits from Spicer, McLaughlin and Fredericksdorf.
- PHC extended its lead to 7-4 in the fourth.
- In the bottom of the fourth, Williamson took control of the game for good. Fredericksdorf led off with a homerun. Sanchez doubnled and scored on a single by Naumann to make it 7-6. Naumann stole second and moved to third on an error before crossing the plate on. Gross single. Three batters later, Spicer doubled home Gross, giving WT an 8-7 lead.
- The Mechanics added an insurance run in the fifrh as McLaighlin walked, stole second and third and came in to score on a groundout.
